Other Causes of Symptoms

Hormone deficiencies are a real possibility in menopause. Though a deficiency of all hormones does not occur in every menopause type®, when there is a deficiency it can cause significant symptoms.

However, many of the symptoms associated with hormone deficiency, or testosterone excess may be due to poor lifestyle choices such as lack of exercise, inadequate rest, stress, smoking, inadequate intake of water, or excessive caffeine or alcohol consumption. Nutrient deficiencies brought on by dieting or lifestyle may also precipitate some of these symptoms. In addition, other hormonal imbalances such as thyroid or adrenal may be to blame for the symptoms.

What this means to you

With so many causes for these symptoms, it is all the more important to recognize the Foundational Therapies as mentioned in the previous Menopause Choices page. As noted, foundational therapies such as lifestyle, nutrition, herbs and homeopathy can be started on the first visit to your doctors' office. More advanced therapeutics such as hormone precursors or natural hormones should wait until more objective data such as lab tests are available.

What's Next?

With so many causes of symptoms it is important to begin foundational therapies that are appropriate for your unique needs, based on your menopause type®. The next slide presents some of the foundational therapies you may consider.
