INSULIN RESISTANCE & DIABETES |
Where do we go from here? |
To this point we have
discussed the relationship between menopause and abnormal sugar metabolism.
We have established that although healthy, balanced hormones and ideal body
weight were important, that there are other considerations for normal blood
sugar function. |
We have also come to realize that abnormal sugar
metabolism is a widespread problem, reaching epidemic proportions! |
We also realize that long before diabetes takes
place, the first stages of dysglycemia – hypoglycemia and insulin - can be
easily identified, and more easily managed. |
The negative effect on quality of life and the
increased risk of life threatening diseases requires increased attention to
blood sugar and insulin health, especially woman of menopause age. |
Risk
Factors |
Assessing risk factors based on family history,
waist-to-hip ratio and weight are inadequate. A woman may be of ideal weight,
have a waist-to hip ratio that with no family history and still be at risk. |
It’s important to realize that the best way to
determine risk for developing a dysglycemia is through diagnostic tests, and
evaluation by an experienced health care professional. |
The next few pages will discuss how a healthy diet
can prevent dysglycemia and how and unhealthy diet can cause dysglycemia.
Tests which can be used to detect the onset of insulin resistance and
diabetes will be presented. Then the conventional, as well as the nutritional
and herbal choices for management of dysglycemias will be discussed. |

What's
Next? |

healthy and unhealthy blood sugar metabolism. |
